I have another space and science nut friend (he’s the pilot geek, I’m the astronomy geek) who asked if I would be interested in attending this event at the San Diego Air and Space Museum on December 1.
Nerdgasm! I am IN!
Growing up, my grandfather had an avionics repair shop and HAM radio station (K2VOX) running in his basement. All over the ceiling were pictures of every launch vehicle and nearly every astronaut in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. He’s still around in his 80s, repairing radios and regaling the grand kids (now GREAT grand kids) with tales of his telephone poles on the moon.
K2VOX: I’ll have pictures for you. If I get the opportunity, I’ll ask Gene Cernan if he saw any of your debris. I’m sure that information is classified but there will be drinks with dinner, so maybe the commander will loosen up and admit to seeing some of your handiwork in the Taurus-Littrow valley.
